The white project was my university project at Nottingham Trent University. This focused on creating a garment in white fabric to focus on the design features rather than using colours. My main focus was on the concept of corals, and marine life. I experimented with the different textures that these organisms create. I first began by researching the different types of corals and using images from the natural history museum to recreate in fabrics. The main technique I used was ruffles as I felt that this created a similar texture.
The colour project consisted of designing an outerwear garment for the charity Emmanuel House. This charity aims to help the lives of people living on the street, by providing food, clothes, healthcare and shelter. Within this project I looked into the idea of conventional comfort and questioned what the meaning of comfort actually means. There is a definite contrast between our idea of comfort and homeless peoples idea, and I wanted to express this within my work. I began looking at bedding and sleepwear (what we know as comfortable), and looking at how I can comprise this idea into a garment to make the end user feel more comfortable and more homely. I experimented with quilting as this is an aspect that we see a lot in blankets, pillows and duvets around our own homes.
Whilst being at Nottingham Trent university, I have been developing my Cad skills in the programmes of adobe illustrator, photoshop and InDesign. Within these I have been experimenting with creating spec drawings of my final designs and how to draw small details using the pen tool. I have also been experimenting with mood boards and using colour, brush strokes, gradient and colouring to create a more eccentric and exciting design.
